Artifacts

Choosing is one of the first portraits painted of me. My first husband, George Watts, did a brilliant job of capturing my youth.

File:Sadness, by Julia Margaret Cameron.jpg
A photograph my dear friend Julia Margaret Cameron took titled "Sadness." This picture was taken when I was only sixteen years of age, and was going through a lot of discrimination and a failed marriage. Julia captured my true emotions marvelously!

These are photographs of a program from my first return to the theatre. I performed as Lady Macbeth in Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth, alongside my dear friend Henry Irving in the Lyceum Theatre. Bram Stoker was the acting manager for this incredible show!

‘Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth’
In this painting, I am portraying the role of Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. John Singer Sargent flatters me with his ability to make me look mad, but also breathtaking  is amazing.

Henry Irving and Ellen Terry
My acting partner and friend, Henry Irving. I'm thankful for his words of encouragement and believing in me when no one else in the theatre business would.
